Debian vs Ubuntu

Difference between Debian and Ubuntu #
Pros Ubuntu #
- Ubuntu on a server is essentially Debian with professional support.
- So if you ’need’ to be able to contact a support service to help resolve software issues, then Ubuntu is a good choice.
Pros Debian #
Debian appeals to technical management for a number of reasons. Technical management: who has experience of managing technical involved teams where team’s deep skills matter.
Secondly, for engineering-centric companies, support is pointless. Using the Google example again, if Google search is down, then they don’t call Red Hat and wait for a support agent to pick up the call. Furthermore Google’s management want far better information on the progress of the bug than a status of “assigned to second-tier support engineer”.
Thirdly, money. If you’re a vendor of a point of sale solution, supporting a supermarket with 10,000 service points, then ‘free as in beer’ is a very attractive price for the operating system.
