Summary #

Just like adjectives, adverbs are also used to describe words, but the difference is that adverbs describe adjectives, verbs, or another adverb.

Generally end with “ly”. Describes manner in which action took place.

Examples: #

  • Phillip sings loudly in the shower.
  • My cat waits impatiently for his food.
  • I will seriously consider your suggestion.

Modifying #

Add degree of intensity to the .

Examples: #

  • The woman is quite pretty(adj).
  • This book is more interesting(adj) than the last one.
  • The weather report is almost always right(adj).

Phillip sings(v) rather enormously too loudly.

Modifying ( sentence adverbs) #

Examples: #

  • Fortunately, we got there in time.
  • Interestingly, no one at the auction seemed interested in bidding on the antique spoon collection.
